LOWELL -- The Compass Program Shark Tank class at Lowell High School recently raised $1,007 to benefit the families affected by the Branch Street fire earlier this summer.
The incoming freshmen, under the guidance of teacher Courtney Keefe, worked tirelessly to organize and pull off the fundraiser. Without having even started their high-school careers, the students have already showed great enthusiasm and community spirit.
The Compass Program is a summer and after-school program for LHS students that offers a variety of enrichment activities designed to engage students in their community.
Students involved in the effort include Josh Angove, Gabriella Canas, Pedro Castillo, Natalya Cruz, Jamiel Dawn, Haley Drew, Elizabeth DuPont, Nick Figueroa, Adrianna Gonzalez, Christian Gouevia, Wayne Graham, William Khim, Brandon Ouellette and Matthew Sao.
The fire, in the early-morning hours of July 10, killed seven people, including five members of one family.
